Centerville Garden Club Records

Summary/Abstract

The Centerville Garden Club, located near Dayton, Ohio, was established in 1930. The records consist almost entirely of scrapbooks with both internal and external material on the club. The collection contains financial, administrative, and membership records.

The Friday Afternoon Club was founded in 1893 as a literary club for women in the Dayton area. Aside from academic and literary studies, the Friday Afternoon club also enjoys social events such as lectures, plays and picnics. Still in existence, the club meets every other Friday at the homes of its members. The collection consists of minutes and membership rosters, financial records, yearly programs, and scrapbooks.

This chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is named for Jonathon Dayton, the youngest person to sign the U.S. Constitution. The Jonathon Dayton Chapter of the DAR was organized on Feb. 18, 1896 and chartered Apr. 8, 1896. The collection contains scrapbooks outlining the history and activities of the Dayton, Ohio Chapter and includes clippings, photographs, programs, local histories, and genealogies.
